TechBacked ("BuilderCam," "we," "our," or "us") operates the BuilderCam mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you register, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash via Firebase Authentication).

Video & Audio Recordings

The core function of BuilderCam is recording job-site walkthroughs. Video and audio files you record are uploaded to and stored in Google Cloud Storage (Firebase Storage). These recordings are processed by AI services to generate transcripts and Statements of Work.

Documents & Content

We store generated Statements of Work, transcripts, client information you enter, and any documents you create or upload through the Service in our Firestore database.

Usage & Log Data

We automatically collect information about how you interact with the Service, including IP address, device type, operating system, browser type, pages visited, features used, and timestamps. This data is used to operate, secure, and improve the Service.

Payment Information

We do not store your credit card or payment details. All billing is handled by Paddle.com Market Ltd., our payment processor. See Section 4 for more detail.

Team & Collaboration Data

If you use team features, we store information about your team members, their roles, and their activity within your account.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
• Process and transcribe video recordings to generate Statements of Work
• Manage your account, subscription, and team
• Process payments and send billing-related communications
• Send transactional emails (receipts, password resets, document notifications)
• Respond to support requests and communications
• Monitor for fraudulent or abusive activity and enforce our Terms
• Comply with legal obligations
• With your consent, send product updates and marketing communications (you may opt out at any time)

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

3. How We Share Your Information

We share data only as necessary to operate the Service:

Service Providers

• Google Firebase — authentication, database (Firestore), and file storage
• OpenAI — AI transcription and SOW generation (audio/video content may be processed by OpenAI's API)
• Paddle.com Market Ltd. — subscription billing and payment processing (acts as Merchant of Record)
• Email delivery providers — for transactional and product emails

Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process (e.g., a court order or subpoena).

Business Transfers

If BuilderCam is acquired or merges with another company, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or a prominent notice on the Service before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

We do not share your data for advertising purposes.

4. Payments & Billing

BuilderCam uses Paddle.com Market Ltd. ("Paddle") as its Merchant of Record for all subscription billing. When you purchase a subscription:

• Your payment is processed directly by Paddle
• Paddle collects your billing name, address, and payment card details
• Paddle issues your invoice and handles applicable taxes
• BuilderCam receives confirmation of your subscription status but never receives your full card number

Paddle's handling of your payment data is governed by Paddle's Privacy Policy.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account:

• Personal account data is deleted within 30 days
• Video recordings are deleted within 30 days
• Generated documents are deleted within 30 days
• Billing records required for tax compliance may be retained for up to 7 years as required by law
• Anonymised, aggregated usage statistics may be retained indefinitely

6. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

• Encryption in transit (TLS) for all data transmitted to and from our servers
• Encryption at rest for files stored in Firebase Storage
• Role-based access controls limiting employee access to customer data
• Firebase Authentication for secure identity management

No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to security@buildercam.ai.

7. Cookies & Tracking

Our website uses:

• Essential cookies — required for authentication and session management
• Analytics cookies — to understand how visitors use our website (we use privacy-respecting analytics)

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies will prevent you from logging in to the Service.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
• Deletion — request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements)
• Portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
• Objection — object to processing of your data in certain circumstances
• Withdraw Consent — where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time

If you are in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@buildercam.ai and we will promptly delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top and notify you via email or an in-app notification if the changes are material. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
